INFLUENCE UPON DRIVING ABILITY OF TAKING VEGETABLE SEDATIVES
BEEINFLUSSUNG DER VERKEHRSTUECHTIGKEIT DURCH DIE EINNAHME EINES PFLANZLICHEN SEDATIVUMS
The problem of whether taking vegetable sedatives leads to A deterioration of driving ability was tested in A double-blind experiment on 109 driving students and teachers. The verum group consisted of 52 persons and the placebo group of 57. 2 doses were tested, 3 times 1 capsule and 3 times 2 capsules of balrisedon and placebo capsules respectively. The effects on driving ability were measured by reaction, concentration and performance tests, which were also used to form the basis of aptitude judgements by the medical-psychological institute of the technical university. All participants were examined using this performance process at an initial interview. At the same time the freiburg infirmity list was utilized to determine the frequency and intensity of bodily infirmities; also A development of the freiburg list modified by the institute, which measured acute physical infirmities, and an anxiety questionnaire. After a week the participants were again interviewed in the same manner in the evening, after having taken the placebo or verum preparation during the day. Neither those who had taken 3 nor those who had taken 6 capsules exhibited any relevant reduction in performance from the verum. In contrast, from a series of significant performance variables an increase in efficiency was observed. Negative consequences upon driving ability from the use of the preparation can therefore be largely excluded. (TRRL)
