THREE YEARS' EXPERIENCE WITH THE TRAFFIC CONSULTATION HOUR IN EINDHOVEN

DRIE JAAR ERVARING MET HET VERKEERSSPREEKUUR IN EINDHOVEN

Communication between local governments and their citizens can be improved by the introduction of a traffic consultation hour. A crucial point is that the civil servant in question can decide immediately on minor complaints and requests. In Eindhoven there is a limit of about found5000 for projects on which immediate action can be taken. The majority of problems relate to the immediate situation. One of the main topics is the subjective lack of safety in residential areas, caused by what people judge to be the excessive speeds of motor cars. If more complex measures are considered, such as the construction of speed humps and the introduction of one way streets, it is necessary to interview the people who are directly involved.
