INTER-ISLAND CONTAINER SERVICES-AN OPERATING CRITIQUE
The rapid growth of the container system in the Phillippine domestic trade over the past four years has led to a considerable number of operational problems. In order to assist inter-island shipping lines to solve such problems, to streamline existing systems and procedures and to formulate technically viable plans for ship acquisitions and terminal facilities, the Maritime Industry Authority (Marina) in cooperation with the German Agency for Technical Cooperation (GTZ) has organised a programme to provide appropriate technical advice on container operations to the lines. A report, the Present state of Containerization in the Philippine Inter-Island Trade, summarising the findings of the advisory programme, conducted by British maritime consultant John H. Agnew, has recently been released by Marina.
