USE OF FABRIC IN CIVIL ENGINEERING CONSTRUCTION

This article discusses the problems of poor load bearing soils for road construction and experiments carried out by using fabrics of various trade names like lotrak, terram, mirafi500x, bidim, petromat and supac in maharashtra state, India. Specific use of fabrics to overcome the water logged and peaty soils stabilization is highlighted. World bank is financing the construction of experimental stretches. In view of the irrigation potential of different regions in India and its future impact on the roads in agricultural command areas, the design and maintenance problems of roads are of direct relevance to the use of fabric.
