WILL THE GAS-TURBINE BE USED IN CARS OF THE FUTURE?
KOMMT DIE GASTURBINE IM AUTO DER ZUKUNFT?
The gas-turbine is discussed as an alternative to the traditional reciprocating piston engine for private transport. This report gives a review of its method of operation, advantages (relatively simpler construction, less fuel required, less pollutant in the exhaust gases) and disadvantages compared to usual systems (high manufacturing costs, slow onset of acceleration, loud intake noise). The technical development of gas turbine cars over the past 40 years is considered. The Research Ministry at Bonn has published a paper on the new total concept for the development of the turbine system. (TRRL)
