SILOCONT-A NEW APPROACH TO AN UNPROVEN CONCEPT

The concept of the container silo system, combining the dual functions of handling and storage, has long been discussed in the container handling world. However, even with the industry well past its infancy, no such system has emerged which is recognised as being able to supersede the established handling and storage systems. Traditionally, the silo system has been regarded as possessing major inherent faults for example; slow handling rates and thus poor selectivity, basic design complexity and high construction and operational costs. Today though it appears that one company, Walker & Associates, is confident that it has come up with a system which eliminates these and other problems plus offers a wide range of extra benefits. In this article, Dr. G. Pizzi of Walker & Associates, describes the system, designated Silocont, and outlines its advantages.
