ON THE PREDICTION OF FREQUENCY AND INTENSITY OF BOTTOM IMPACT ABOARD SHIPS IN A SEAWAY

The frequency of slamming which exceeds various given limits of intensity is determined. The bending vibration amplitude of the hull-occuring immediately after a slam-for the different modes of natural vibration is taken as a characteristic value for the intensity of the slam. The local impact load on the hull is derived from the momentum of the added mass of the sections, which immerse with the relative velocity between wave and ship.
