A STATISTICAL ANALYSIS OF THE CHARACTERISTICS OF THE SHIP'S MOTIONS AND ITS CONTROL

In this technical report, the author discusses the recent topics on statistical analysis and the control problem of the ships' motions using the minimum AIC procedure proposed by Dr. Akaike. The AIC (Akaike's Information Criterion) is the quantity by which it is possible to measure the information quantity contained in the designed model. The results of the sea tests of an entirely new autopilot system which the author has developed are reported. Finally, the application of this procedure to the governor design in the marine engine is also briefly discussed. Order from NSFI as No. 22130.
