HEAVY FUEL IN MEDIUM SPEED ENGINES. LATEST MIRRLEES BLACKSTONE SERVICE EXPERIENCE

The operating experience with heavy fuel oil in K Major engines is reported on. It is shown that it was possible to design and build an engine running at 600 rev/min having the same thermal efficiency on residual fuels as on distillate fuels. Preheating of fuel oil, ash content and effect of impurities in fuel, and fuel changeover system are discussed. The K Major Mark 3 engine is described. Order from NSFI as No. 22176.
