TUNNELLING RESEARCH: THE ONLY ROAD TO SUCCESS
The article considers the state of tunnelling development and current centres of research in the United Kingdom. It is generally left to the state-financed research sector to provide broad-based information indicating the future of tunnelling techniques as well as on specific subjects. The work of the TRRL is described as that of improving the planning, design, construction and operation of buried pipelines for services, and tunnels for water, transport and mining facilities. Other research work carried out at the University of Newcastle-Upon-Tyne and the Royal School of Mines in London is also discussed. (TRRL)
