A critical appraisal of methods is given in this paper and the need for research in India is emphasised. It discusses the construction of reinforced earth structures, foundation preparation, wall erection, backfill placements, joint materials. Advantages of root piles and use of sand filled paper grids and nets are also given. Landslides can be controlled by reinforced walls instead of the costly method of retaining walls. Most of these systems provide excellent earthquake resistance. (TRRL)
