FULL SCALE TRIAL OF THE RAISING OF THE MAXIMUM SPEED FOR THE NEW TOURING BUSES

GROSSVERSUCH ZUR ANHEBUNG DER HOECHSTGESCHWINDIGKEIT FUER NEUERE REISEBUSSE

Because of the technical developments in modern touring buses and their greater safety, a raising of their maximum speed was demanded. The advantages of this were said to be a separation of bus and lorry traffic and an increase in the attractiveness of this transport mode. At present there is a trial raising of the maximum permissible speed for touring buses on federal motorways, which satisfies certain demands. A project group has worked out a study programme which is being carried out in parallel to the trial. The effects of the trial on safety and on traffic flow on the motorways, changes in the stress on bus drivers, necessary structural modifications to the buses and economic effects are to be determined before the trial period is concluded and should enable the advantages and drawbacks of a general raising of the maximum speed to be evaluated.
