BOSCH-MOTRONIC - CONTROLS IGNITION AND FUEL INJECTION

BOSCH-MOTRONIC - STEUERT ZUENDUNG UND BENZINEINSPRITZUNG

A new electronic system for otto engines is presented which by means of microcomputers controls ignition moment and amount of fuel injected in relation to engine requirements at the time with an accuracy and stability which has hitherto not been achieved. The heart of the motronic is the microcomputer which consists of a microprocessor, the data and program store, and an input-output switching circuit. Sensors inform the computer of the air intake quantity, number of revolutions, crankshaft position and the engine and intake air temperature. Using this information the computer calculates the quantity of fuel to be injected and the ignition point in accordance with pre-established programs. The main advantages of the system are the fuel savings and reduction in maintenance costs achieved. Depending on design a decrease in consumption of 5 to 20 percent is possible. The whole motronic system is explained by means of graphics. (TRRL)
