THE REPAIR OF CONCRETE STRUCTURES AFTER FIRE
LA REPARATION DES OUVRAGES EN BETON APRES INCENDIE
The author describes the different operations to carry out after a fire: (1) inquiry concerning the fire; (2) exact evaluation of damage to concrete members after visual observations and in-situ tests, and tests on samples; (3) selection of one or several method(s) of repair according to the magnitude of the damage. The selection of a method is based on a number of factors concerning the condition of the members, their position, environment, overall cost and durability. The main methods are: injection to strengthen the concrete in the case of internal fissurations; preliminary treatments to facilitate bonding; manual repair with mortar or concrete; compressed-air projection of mortar or concrete; strengthening by glueing of steel sheets; (4) later control of repair.
