REMIX CUTS COSTS ON A5 PAVING TRIAL

This is a short description of trials of associated asphalt's new Wirtgen/Blaw Knox Paver on trunk road a5 north of Dunsfold, Buckinghamshire. The work is being monitored by the TRRL, the Department of Transport and Bucks County Council. The three test sections involve conventional relaying, repaving and remixing in situ. The remixing method includes cold planing the surface dressing, softening the top 25 mm of asphalt, then lifting and remixing the material and relaying. It is suggested this may save 20% of the cost of normal resurfacing. (TRRL)
