A NEW LIGHTING SYSTEM FOR ROAD ILLUMINATION

EIN NEUES LEUCHTENSYSTEM IN DER STRASSENBELEUCHTUNG

Collected experience in highway illumination is summarised in the recommendations of the International Lighting Commission CIE number 12.2. These guidelines from 1977 supersede DIN 5044 on the important points. This was considered by Siemens when developing a new series of lamps. With the new highway lamp 5 NA 342/343 with adjustable mirror optics a light for high pressure-discharge lamps was produced which fulfils the requirements of DIN 5044 and also those of the international recommendations. Typical characteristics of these are: universal application of different light sources - a higher illumination level - an optimum light distribution form - adaptability to a varying carriageway surface - adjustable mirror optics - higher and better uniformity of luminance - high anti-dazzle freedom - low running costs - better usage of energy. The lamp represents further development of sioptal-mirror illumination. (TRRL)
