SUITE OF PROGRAMS FOR OPTIMIZING ROAD DESIGN. PART IV: DV STANDARD CROSS SECTION

PROGRAMMSYSTEM ZUR OPTIMIERUNG DES STRASSENENTWURFS. TEIL IV: DV-STANDARDQUERSCHNITT

With the progressive development of the EPOS suite of programs for optimum road design, for both horizontal and vertical alignment, a more accurate evaluation of the cross-section parameters for calculating the different part-areas became necessary. The prerequisite for this type of calculation is the availability of a flexible and standardized program for calculating the cross-sections. For setting up this program of computations with the usage of "parameters for road cross sections for data processing" a standardisation of typical cross-sections was achieved specifically to suit data processing. Here a cross-section suitable for data processing was developed, abbreviated dvq. This is a generally valid frame set up to suit the desired cross-sections using constraint parameters. It is presented in a form suitable for data processing. On the basis of these works, especially the detailed table of parameters summarized in them, system and program development for a generally valid program package for further possible applications in connection with design orientation could be attempted. In addition a summary of unified input formulae for the usual standard and special cross sections was produced. After further examination of still unclarified design-technical prerequisites, the system was conceived, realized and documented. (TRRL)
