SHEAR TESTS ON BEAMS WITH VARIABLE WEB DEPTHS

In order to clarify the question whether the transverse force in beams may be taken up by ribs which are inclined regularly, seven single span girdes with t-cross sections were tested. In addition to the inclination of the compression flange, for a constant web thickness, the ratio of web width to the slab width as well as the compression strength of the concrete and the proportion of shear reinforcement was varied. The results showed that in addition to a reduction in the transvese force by the regular vertical components of the bending compression force, a further proportion of the transverse force can be taken up as a result of the additional inclination of the bending compression zone.
