SHEAR TESTS ON BEAMS AND SLABS WITH SIMULTANEOUS LONGITUDINAL TENSION

The aim of these studies was to clarify the degree to which the shear load bearing capacity of beams and slabs may be reduced by separation cracks which arise because of longitudinal stress resulting from restraint, temperature and creep. In part a report is made on shear tests on single span T-Beams, in which both the values of the mean longitudinal tensile force and the amount of shear reinforcement was varied. Part b deals with similar tests on reinforced concrete slabs without shear reinforcement. (TRRL)
