The article gives a summary of the project which was started in 1977 and finished by the end of 1979. The result of the project is mainly a computer program for calculation of ship manoeuvring in deep water. This program differs from most of the existing programs in that all forces can be found by theoretical or empirical means. Thereby the need for extensive model testing to find hydrodynamic hull forces and control forces will be reduced, at least for conventional ship forms where empirical data are available. Testing of the program gives reasonable agreement between predicted and measured ship motion. However, the agreement is not as good as that obtained by using force coefficients found from model tests.
