The single-loop steering system makes linear and continuous control of the main pump possible without a dead band by employing a combination torque motor and a servo valve possessing high accuracy. The autopilot control of the system ensures smooth and accurate steering during course change, and reduction of periodical yawing followed by rudder operation (called limit cycle vibration), due to a dead band in the system during course-keeping navigation. As a result, the fuel oil consumption of the main engine can be reduced by improving propulsion efficiency.
