PREDICTION OF HYDRODYNAMIC IMPACT PRESSURE ACTING ON BOW

This paper reports the results of experiments in both regular and irregular waves, which were carried out in order to obtain the fundamental data needed for the prediction of hydrodynamic impact pressure acting on a bow in rough sea. A technique introduced by S. Takezawa and S. Hasegawa was applied to the measurements of impact velocities and impact angles. The displacement effect on bow wave steepness, the frequency of occurrence of impact pressure, the distribution of random variables such as impact pressure, impact velocity and impact angle were determined in order to facilitate the prediction of maximum impact pressure in rough seas.
