ICEBREAKING WITH THE MODEL AND IN FULL-SCALE TESTS
EISBRECHEN MIT MODEL UND GROSSAUSFUEHRUNG
The importance of Ice Technology has been recognized along with the interest of industrial nations in raw materials in polar regions. This paper studies efforts being undertaken in this research field, in order to obtain useful predictions for icebreaking ships from model testing in ice. During the model investigations in the HSVA-icetank, conditions corresponding to those encountered in nature were produced. The comparison between full scale and model test data resulted in deviations of less than 10%.
