SALT INSTITUTE'S SENSIBLE SALTING PROGRAM PROVIDES WINTER GUIDELINES

The article discusses advantages and disadvantages of applying salt for snow and ice control, in terms of road and street safety, economic advantages of "open" or bare pavement thoroughfares, and environmental damage. It is based in part on studies conducted by the Salt Institute, and on studies conducted by the magazine itself. It concludes that salt is the most efficient, cost-effective and advantageous means of controlling snow and ice with minimum non-beneficial side effects.
