A NEW TYPE OF EXPANSION JOINT SYSTEM FOR BRIDGES
In this paper a new type of low stress gland type rubber cushion joint system for bridges is discussed. The advantages are: the elimination of the possibility of plastic flow, bolt pull out and lossening, resistance to upward buckling, noise and leak proofing and ideally suited for the racking movements of skews and for deck overlay with asphalt. This system is more amenable for practical applications. It has already been applied to a number of bridges in the USA and other countries. It can be easily produced in India and is suggested for bridge applications. (TRRL)
