DETERMINING DESIGN PARAMETERS FOR SEISMIC ACTIVITY AND HOW THESE ARE AFFECTED BY DIFFERENT SOILS
DETERMINACION DE LAS ACCIONES SISMICAS DE DISENO E INFLUENCIA DEL TERRENO EN SUS CARACTERISTICAS
The present article is an effort to review the different techniques currently available to the engineer to determine dynamic input with the purpose of studying soil behaviour and soil-structure interaction under seismic forces. The principal intention is to give practical significance by commenting on the best types of co-relations to help the designer in the choice of the required design parameters. After the most typical earthquake parameters are identified, the most common methods used to establish the design acceleration plot are presented. There follows a detailed study of the method based on the acceleration response spectrum, which is the most currently used method to determine the dynamic input (in nuclear power plants) and a brief description is made of the methods based on earthquake simulation as stochastic processes with analytical incorporation of the failure mechanism of the fault in the determination of seismic action.
