FULLY-SATURATED GREEN PERIODS AT FIXED-TIME TRAFFIC SIGNALS

In this paper some results of studies of the average number of vehicles left in the queue at the end of a green phase and the number of fully saturated green periods are presented. The arrivals of vehicles at an intersection was characterised by the ratio /, which defines the ratio of the variance to the mean of arrivals. The results of studies of the average number of vehicles left in the queue at the end of a green phase have been compared with Miller's equation and a theoretical-empirical formula has been derived. The number of fully-saturated green periods, which defines the traffic conditions, was investigated from the point of view of the influence of ratio / upon the load factor value, which defines the proportion of fully-saturated cycles during a rush-hour.
