REGENERATION AND RECYCLING OF BITUMINOUS MIXTURES. 3. RECYCLING OF BITUMINOUS MIXTURES IN THE MIXING PLANT, PROBLEMS OF EQUIPMENT

REGENERATION ET RECYCLAGE DES ENROBES BITUMINEUX - 3 - RECYCLAGE DES ENROBES BITUMINEUX EN CENTRALE D'ENROBAGE, LES PROBLEMES DE MATERIEL

The author examines the successive phases of the recycling of bituminous mixtures in a mixing plant, e.g. Recovery and preparation of the materials, and recycling. An attempt is made to define for each phase the objectives sought: to ensure the consistency of the recycled materials and to manufacture mixtures with the same qualities as standard mixtures by correction of the grading and addition of new bitumen. Well-known equipment is reviewed as regards recovery of the materials (hot or cold technique) and mixing plants (conventional plants or modified drying-mixing plants). Details are given of results published in us literature. It is pointed out that an economic choice must be made in the light of the respective performance and costs of hot or cold milling, crushing and preliminary storage problems, and possibilities of using present modified mixing plants.
