DEFORMATION BEHAVIOUR OF PLASTICIZED CONCRETE

Since no extensive test results were available from which to lay down values for calculating the creep- and shrinkage-behaviour of plasticized concrete, as compared to ordinary concrete, when the "code of practice for the mixing and placing of plasticized concrete" was being prepared in 1974, it was established that at least the values for mix types k3 should be utilized. The function of creep is discussed together with the possibilities of understanding its temporal relationships. From numerous publications which have since appeared and which are individually referred to, it seems certain that shrinkage and creep in plasticized concrete occur in a similar manner to their appearance in ordinary concrete. From fundamental considerations and experimental results it is gathered that the higher values required in the code or practice no longer apply and the code should be amended accordingly. Furthermore it is shown that when plasticizers are used to lessen consistency, calculations should only be performed with values applicable to the resulting basic consistency. (TRRL)
