The article considers the subject of street furniture, its choice and siting. In the case of a new town such as cumbernauld, the choice of street furniture should follow A design theme. Problems of equipment design and location are examined in the following sections - bus stops, street lighting, road and footpath signing and landscaping. It is concluded that from the range of well designed equipment available such as shelters, lighting units, signs and barriers, items must be selected and sited to form a visually attractive and useful street environment.
