THE APPLICATION OF GEOLOGICAL TECHNIQUES TO ROUTE LOCATION STUDIES CARRIED OUT BY THE DEPARTMENT OF MAIN ROADS, NSW

The application of geological techniques to route location studies carried out by the Department of Main Roads, N.S.W. is described. The system developed by the department is based on photogrammetry and also on geological, pedological and engineering materials maps. Early studies were restricted to "subgrade" investigations along the proposed route but with the development of freeways they have become more extensive and involve the investigation of one or more proposed corridors (A).
