The Acma Beta Series expansion joint system consists of a specially moulded compression seal (Acma Lock Seal) held between two "low profile Steel Extrusions". The model B240 is the single seal model and when placed in a gang type system it is known as part of the Acma Beta modular joint system. The mechanics of the modular joint system are said to be similar to the Acma Modular system. The B240 joint assembly was laboratory tested for its performance in the presence of incompressibles, its action in a skewed condition and its tensile and compressive characteristics on opening and closing. The "Acma Lock Seal" was tested for its physical properties. The Acma Beta Series of expansion joints appears to be a sound expansion joint system. On the basis of the laboratory tests we recommend that the minimum gap per seal be 0.5 inch and the maximum gap per seal be 2.5 inches thus yielding an effective movement of 2.0 inches per seal.
