Accelerated Retrofit of Bridge Columns Using UHPC Shell - Phase I: Feasibility Study

This research aims to investigate the performance of ultra high performance concrete (UHPC) as retrofit material for damaged bridge columns. To achieve this goal, an experimental study was designed to evaluate the mechanical performance of the repaired columns under a combination of static axial and cyclic lateral loads (to simulate operational conditions). Section 2 of this report explains the column construction, artificial damage and repair, test setup, and instrumentation procedures; Section 3 outlines test observations, Section 4 presents test results; and Section 5 presents the concluding remarks.
