OKSTRA® and IFC – A Comparison

Die Industry Foundation Classes (IFC) sind ein im Hochbau entwickelter Standard für den objektorientierten, herstellerneutralen Datenaustausch, der im Zuge von Building Information Modeling (BIM) zunehmend auch in der Infrastruktur an Bedeutung gewinnt. Demgegenüber steht der OKSTRA, der in Deutschland seit Jahren beim herstellerneutralen Austausch von Straßendaten eingesetzt wird. Ein Vergleich beider Standards zeigt die Stärken des OKSTRA beim Austausch parametrisierter Modelle, während die IFC bei der Berücksichtigung unterschiedlichster Gewerke und der Erzeugung von Gesamt- oder Koordinierungsmodellen punkten können. Die richtige Wahl des Austauschformats hängt also vom jeweiligen Anwendungsfall ab. Die Weiterentwicklung beider Standards soll aufeinander abgestimmt werden, um bewährte Konzepte zu übernehmen und Doppelentwicklungen zu vermeiden. (A) ABSTRACT IN ENGLISH: The Industry Foundation Classes (IFC) are a standard for object-oriented, non-proprietary data exchange in structural engineering which become increasingly important in the infrastructure in course of BIM. On the other hand is OKSTRA, a standard used in Germany since several years for non-proprietary exchange of road data. The comparison of both standards shows the strong points of OKSTRA for the exchange of parameterized models while IFC have their strengths in consideration of different trades and producing complete models or coordination models. Therefore, the correct choice of the exchange format depends on the use case. The further development of both standards shall be coordinated to adopt approved concepts and to avoid dual developments.
