Guide for the Selection of Rapid Repair Systems for Earthquake-Damaged Reinforced Concrete Bridge Columns
This guide addresses the selection of systems for rapidly repairing earthquake-damaged reinforced concrete bridge columns with different types and levels of damage. Recent studies in the technical literature on repair have demonstrated that different techniques can be a viable option for restoring the use of earthquake-damaged RC bridge columns, even those columns that have been severely damaged. Furthermore, other studies have confirmed the feasibility of implementing certain repair techniques within a short timeframe, thereby making them suitable for the purpose of rapid repair. In order to design and implement the repair, the damage extent and type of damage must be quantified, and an appropriate repair system must be identified. This guide helps identify appropriate repair systems corresponding to the damage observed. The guide also helps enables bridge engineers and inspectors to make rapid, effective, and cost-beneficial decisions regarding post-earthquake repair of bridge columns, which are critical to the transportation industry.
