Mt. Newman mining switch upgrade

The Mt. Newman Mining Co Railroad carries approximately 50 MGT annually over 420km single mainline track. Six trains each approximately 24,000 tonnes and average 32.5 tonnes axle load operate each day with mainline speed up to 80km per hour. 420km line includes 1:15 turnout. The single 12 passing sidings using The Company started an extensive switch upgrade programme in OY14 (1982) spread over three years, utilizing 68kg head hardened rails, flexible switch blades with manganese tip and swing nose frogs of 1% chrome for mainline turnouts.
