ROLE OF INFORMATION CENTRE IN TECHNOLOGY TRANSFER WITH SPECIAL REFERENCE TO ROAD ENGINEERING

The concept of technology transfer and its need in developing countries is described briefly. The complexities in the technology transfer process and its information sub-system, especially in field of road engineering are discussed. The role of the Information Centre at CRRI, New Delhi in technology transfer is also highlighted. Four case studies, e.g. road user cost study, construction of low-cost roads in the Escap region, improvement in bullock-cart design, and construction of rural roads in India are cited, with emphasis on information needs and information support rendered.
