TRANSPORT AND REGIONAL DEVELOPMENT. AN INTERNATIONAL HANDBOOK

This handbook examines the question of transport and regional policy by drawing on experience from a number of countries throughout the world. The first part of the book looks at general aspects of transport and regional policy, such as public obligations in transport, the impact on underdeveloped regions, structural aspects of transport infrastructure, integrated transport programmes and questions of cost benefit analysis. In the second part a country by country analysis identifies the contribution of transport to the development of backward regions and the means adopted by public authorities to make this contribution effective. The problems of transport and regional policy in the EEC are dealt with separately and the book concludes with analysis and summary of the contributions to the study and indications of firm areas for future policy.
