AN ANALYSIS OF REPLIES TO A QUESTIONNAIRE ON THE DESIGN PROCEDURES, PERFORMANCE CRITERIA, MATERIALS USED AND RELATED DATA AVAILABILITY FOR RESIDENTIAL STREET PAVEMENTS IN AUSTRALIA

As part of a project aimed at developing a clearer statement of the structural requirements of residential street pavements and at quantifying measures of these structural requirements a questionnaire was forwarded to a number of authorities involved in the design and/or construction of residential streets. Questions were asked in relation to the factors considered important in pavement design and performance, pavement design methods used, pavement materials used, the testing of pavements undertaken and the availability of data. The replies are amalgamated and summarised in the report. A number of factors in relation to the responses are discussed. These include - the importance of durability in pavement design, design lives and terminal or failure conditions used, the age a pavement should be before it requires resurfacing, the importance of low maintenance pavements, factors considered important by users in determining the adequacy of street pavements, pavement design methods used, the use of stabilising materials, the use of stage construction, pavement testing undertaken and the availability of data and records (A).
