Study on the Optimization and Evaluation of Signalized Intersections Based on the Emission Analysis

The unreasonable traffic organization of urban intersections can easily cause a traffic jam, which causes the discharge of pollution gas but also increases fuel consumption. In order to improve the operation efficiency and reduce traffic pollution, vehicle emissions and delays at intersections, this paper analyzes the impact of signal timing optimization and channelization improvement measuring on vehicle emissions. In addition, the paper puts forward the optimization goal of taking delays and emissions as comprehensive indicators using the intersection of Xi’an Yucai Road and North Yanta Road as an example. VISSIM software is used to conduct simulation experiments and compare the detailed data. The results show that the average delay time and the total amount of pollutant emission are largely improved through time optimization and channelization improvement. This study reveals the relationship between traffic organization and exhaust emission, which is of great significance to the overall optimization of intersections.
