Managing Hazardous Slopes: High Resolution Panoramic Imagery for Monitoring Purposes

The Rest and be Thankful site on the A83 road in Scotland is at high risk from debris flows induced by rainfall. Over a period of two years a time-series of panoramic photographs of the site was compiled, and images from the A85 Glen Ogle site were also included. The combined visual data have been used in support of other monitoring activity at the A83 site. The data will also be used in a survey assessing the hazard from boulders at the site. The time-series photographs provide useful imagery for debris flows and other major events and it is recommended that their capture and use be continued. To enable the continuation of time-series monitoring and for the application of the methodology to other sites, the authors describe the process of capturing and creating these high-resolution images.
