ANALYSIS OF GROUND-WIND VORTEX SENSING SYSTEM DATA FROM O'HARE INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT
From July 1976 through September 1977, aircraft wake vortex data were collected on the approach to runways 14R, 27R, and 32L at O'Hare International Airport. The vortices from over 21,000 aircraft were tracked using the propeller anemometer Ground-Wind Vortex Sensing System (GWVSS), and the vortex behavior was correlated with the associated ambient meteorological conditions. The primary purpose of the tests was the evaluation of the Vortex Advisory System (VAS) concept. The elliptical wind criterion used in the VAS was verified using the vortex data. (Author)
