EVALUATION OF THREE DEMONSTRATION PARKING FACILITIES IN CALIFORNIA
This report evaluates the effectiveness of three demonstration parking facilities in stimulating carpooling and transit ridership. Results of the evaluation show that two of the test facilities were very successful and the third one was less so. Location is a very important factor contributing to the success of a parking facility. Good transit service and other ridesharing incentives, such as express lanes for buses and carpools, can also play important roles in the success of parking facilities. The report recommends several characteristics that parking facilities should have and also recommends certain design features in order to maximize its' chances for success.
