RESEARCH IN PROGRESS ON MASONRY CONSTRUCTION. CONFERENCE PROCEEDINGS HELD AT MARINA DEL REY, CALIFORNIA ON MARCH 1980
Several objectives were served by this conference: (1) to present an overview of masonry research in progress and recently completed; (2) to allow for in-depth presentation and discussion of masonry research in progress or recently completed; and (3) to help establish a sense of community among researchers. Abstracts of sixteen papers are presented on the following topics: Shaking Table Study of Single-Story Masonry Houses; Planar Mechanics of Fully Grouted Concrete Masonry; Seismic Behavior of Masonry Piers; An Evaluation of Masonry Bolts for Seismic Applications; A Finite Element Model to Predict Inter-Laminar Shearing; Current Research on Differential Movement Between Structural Frames and Masonry Panel Walls; Elimination of Progressive Collapse in Masonry Structures; Transforming Research into Building Requirements; Building Standards Development for Strengthening Existing Unreinforced Masonry Buildings in Seismic Areas; Investigation of Reinforced Brick Masonry Buildings Undamaged by the San Fernando Earthquake; An Evaluation of Non-Destructive Test Methods to Masonry; Methodology for Mitigation of Seismic Hazards in Existing Unreinforced Masonry Buildings; An Overview of Masonry Research in Canada; Strength of Concrete Masonry Under Biaxial Stresses; and Safety of Existing Structures. Proceedings also include reports of four problem-solving (or proposing) working groups. Appendices include a list of conference registrants and an author index.
