Design Verification of Earthwork Construction by Integrating Intelligent Compaction Technology and Modulus-Based Testing
This paper proposes a guideline for earthwork construction acceptance, using a dataset from different construction sites across Texas. The increasing adoption of mechanistic pavement design methodologies has led state highway agencies to administer stiffness-based tests for quality control and acceptance. This guideline recommends the use of proof rolling with intelligent compaction rollers and modulus-based nondestructive testing in order to achieve uniformity of compacted geomaterials. The paper also addresses the lack of momentum in implementation of mechanistic quality management approaches.
