A Study of Real-driving NOₓ Emission Model for a Diesel Passenger Vehicle Equipped with NOₓ Storage Catalyst

A simulation model is useful to evaluate the NOₓ emission in real-driving due to variable conditions such as, environmental and traffic conditions. In the authors’ previous study, it was possible to predict the NOₓ emission in real-driving conditions using a vehicle without a NOₓ reduction catalyst. In this study, a new model to simulate the amount of NOₓ emission was developed and evaluated under different engine specifications using a vehicle equipped with a NOₓ reduction catalyst. An introduction of a coefficient of NOₓ conversion efficiency enabled the quantitative prediction of NOₓ emission at tail-out by accounting for the temporal variation of catalyst’s temperature.
