ROAD ACCIDENTS INVOLVING YOUNG PEOPLE
VERKEHRSUNFAELLE IM JUGENDALTER
An adolescent dies every hour as the result of an accident. Most accidents involving young people happen in the morning between 8.00 and 12.00 hours and in the afternoon between 15.00 and 17.00 hrs. Particularly at risk are the 2-6 and the 15-19 year olds. They amount to 50 percent of all accident cases. 20 percent of all accidents occur in traffic; most of the fatalities and multiple injuries come within this group. A survey of 1000 children showed that their traffic knowledge was particularly bad; the same applies to adolescents. According to school assessment methods, a third of all children and adolescents are considered incapable of attaining the class objective in this special area. 52 percent of all these in cars and 36 percent on cycles are at risk.
