A CONSIDERATION ON THE MANEUVERABILITY OF SHIPS FROM A STANDPOINT OF MANUAL STEERING
By analysing several actual records of steering, the author has approximated the dynamic characteristics of manual steering. And he has obtained the following results: it is reasonable to consider that the value of gain constant lies between 0.5 and 3, and rate time between 0 and 5, for a well-trained helmsman. The author has applied the above results to the estimation of the optimum values of the measure of maneuverability of ship.
