IT MAY DO THE JOB, BUT IS IT GOOD-LOOKING

In the article the author critically examines the aesthetic design of street furniture available in the United Kingdom compared with continental versions. In the case of Warrington new town a range of road signs and lighting units was developed as part of an integrated range rather than selected from a range of uncoordinated units. Details are given of economical designs developed for traffic and road signs, and also lighting units using standard items adapted to an aesthetically pleasing range of equipment. (TRRL)
