ENGINE CONTROL SENSORS FOR THE '80S: A PREVIEW

The state of automotive engine control sensor art is the pacing factor in the introduction of microcomputer-based engine controls. During the 1980 model year, some 25% of the world's automobiles will include at least one electronic engine control loop. By 1983 that figure will surpass 50%, and the sensors which provide signals to these electronic controls will be produced in multi-million-per-year quantities. This article summarizes and reviews sensor developments which will affect the future of the engine control field.
